The Station is only the beginning
Dunedin Railway Station sits in the heart of the city, but the journeys that begin here can take you much further.
Explore Dunedin before boarding a scenic train, travel through the Taieri Gorge or along the Pacific coast, connect with cycling and road transport, or build the railway into a wider journey through Otago and the South Island.

Explore Dunedin
Step outside the station and you're already in central Dunedin. Explore heritage, food, wildlife, museums, beaches, shopping and experiences around the city before or after your railway journey.

Travel through the Taieri Gorge
Take The Taieri Gorge Train from Dunedin to Pukerangi, travelling inland along the historic railway through the Taieri Gorge. Return to Dunedin the same day or use a one-way journey as the beginning of an onward adventure.

Rail + Ride
Take your bike aboard The Taieri Gorge Train or connect with cycling operators beyond the railway. One-way rail travel can form part of a wider cycling journey, including connections towards the Otago Central Rail Trail.

Continue towards Queenstown
Combine The Taieri Gorge Train with onward road transport from Pukerangi towards Queenstown. Our connection with Cheeky Kiwi provides an option for continuing beyond the end of your rail journey, with road transport carrying you further into the South Island.

Follow the coast to Ōamaru
Selected Seasider Full Day journeys continue north from Dunedin to Ōamaru, combining scenic rail travel along the coast with time to explore the town. Full Day and Full Day+ services operate on selected dates throughout the year.

Build the Station into your South Island journey
Dunedin Railway Station can be more than a stop on your itinerary. Visit the historic station, spend time exploring Dunedin, experience one of our scenic rail journeys and connect onwards to more of Otago and the South Island. Whether you're here for a few hours or beginning a longer journey, the station is a place to start exploring.
