A railway station that's still going places
More than a century after Dunedin Railway Station opened, passenger trains still leave its platforms.
Today, the station is the home of scenic rail journeys through the Taieri Gorge and along the Pacific coastline, while seasonal departures and visiting passenger rail services bring different journeys to the station throughout the year.
Whether you're taking a scenic train, looking for local fares or planning to connect rail with a wider journey through Otago, Dunedin Railway Station is a place to begin.

Scenic Train Tours
Travel inland through the Taieri Gorge or follow the railway north along the Pacific coastline. The Taieri Gorge and The Seasider offer two different ways to experience the landscapes, railway and stories beyond Dunedin.

Other Train Journeys
Dunedin Railway Station also welcomes passenger rail services operated by other providers, including The Mainlander and Great Journeys New Zealand's The Southerner. These services are operated independently from our scenic train journeys.

Seasonal & Special Journeys
Our own seasonal and special experiences sit alongside the regular scenic train programme, bringing new reasons to travel by rail throughout the year. From family journeys to evening experiences and special collaborations, discover what's coming up on the railway.

Local Rates
Live in Otago? Local fares are available on eligible scenic train journeys, giving Otago residents another reason to experience the railway close to home. Find out who qualifies, what you'll need to bring and which journeys offer local rates.

Go further from the Station
Dunedin Railway Station sits in central Dunedin, but your journey doesn't have to end with the train. Combine rail with cycling, onward road transport and time exploring the region, with connections towards the Otago Central Rail Trail, Ōamaru, Central Otago and Queenstown.
