Other passenger trains at Dunedin Railway Station
Dunedin Railway Station is home to The Taieri Gorge and The Seasider, but our platforms are also used by passenger rail services operated by other providers.
These journeys create more opportunities to travel to and from Dunedin by rail and reconnect the station with destinations across the lower South Island.
The Mainlander
The Mainlander operates passenger rail journeys on the Main South Line, connecting Dunedin with destinations including Christchurch and Invercargill.
The Mainlander is operated independently from Dunedin Railway Station, with tickets, schedules and travel information available directly from The Mainlander.

The Southerner
The Southerner is one of New Zealand's historic long-distance passenger rail journeys.
Originally launched in 1970, the service connected Christchurch and Invercargill via Dunedin until 2002. Great Journeys New Zealand has since brought The Southerner back for selected journeys, including services travelling through Dunedin Railway Station.
The Southerner is operated by Great Journeys New Zealand, with tickets and current service information available directly through the operator.
